DO WHAT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE. THEN DO MORE OF IT. In the 10 short years of Embraer Executive Jets, we’ve certified not one, but four clean-sheet designs. We elevated the standards for the light jet category—and then established a new category of mid-size jets altogether. And today, the world’s most delivered business jet is an Embraer. Such progress was only possible due to an amazing history building commercial and military aircraft that achieved similar seemingly impossible accomplishments. Proving you can come a long way in 10 years—when it’s preceded by 40 years of preparation. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

There aremusical instruments. And then there are iconic instruments. This piano falls into the latter camp. It might not have been played by any musical legends yet (though Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang tinkled its keys), but it is the 600,000th piano to be made by Steinway & Sons, which is enough to bestow icon status. Made of ebony, the lid (pictured) is inlaid with the Fibonacci spiral – hence the name. $2.4m, steinway.com The Fibonacci piano

Enter the latest additions to two of South East Asia's finest resorts. Six Senses' new offering at Ninh Van Bay in Vietnam is certainly that. Watches

Monkey business Chopard is releasing a series of watches depicting the animals of the Chinese zodiac calendar. The launch coincides with the Chinese New Year on February 8, which marks the beginning of the year of the monkey. For its first watch in the series, a special limited edition of the L.U.C XP, Chopard commissioned two Japanese masters in the art of Urushi lacquer, Kilchiro Masumura and Minori Koizumi to design and hand paint the dial with the beautifully detailed and intricate scene of a monkey gathering eight peaches. This imagery is a traditional Chinese theme symbolizing good luck and prosperity. $24,290 chopard.com

BRAND PROFILE SPEAKE-MARIN

English watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin studied horology and watchmaking in both the UK and Switzerland, but it was his time spent restoring antique watches in London that completed his watch education. In 1996, he moved to Switzerland, working with companies including Harry Winston and MB&F. Since 2008 Speake-Marin has focused exclusively on his own collection. speake-marin.com

1 Part of the Cabinet des Mystères, this watch invites its wearer to meditate on man’s mortality and appreciate the time he has been given. A detailed skull design is etched onto the silver dial using a precise chemical technique. $24,500 2 The newest version of the Magister Tourbillon has a beautiful enamel dial and features a baguette diamond set bezel. It also has the iconic Piccadilly case, signature blue hands and a clear back so you can see the platinum micro-rotor. $107,200 3 Shenandoah, the first ladies’ collection, is customizable with one or two time zones, a red gold or titanium case and optional gem-set bezel. Rather than shrink a man’s watch, Speake- Marin built this piece from scratch specifically for his female clientele. $22,100

MB&F’s Legacy Machine Perpetual

Breaking with tradition Creative, horological think tank MB&F has concocted a revolutionized perpetual calendar watch, built from the ground up. The Legacy Machine Perpetual is sure to delight watch connoisseurs with its ease of use and good looks. It all began three years ago when MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser (the company name stands for Maximilian Büsser & Friends) invited one of those friends, Stephen McDonnell, an independent Irish watchmaker, to design a new perpetual calendar. This complication hasn’t evolved much over the past 150 years. Instead of adding a perpetual calendar complication to an existing movement, McDonnell started from scratch and designed a movement with an integrated perpetual calendar. Instead of a traditional 31-day calendar, his is a 28-day one, adding additional days as needed instead of skipping days in shorter months. Perpetual calendars are notorious for

Stephen McDonnell independent watchmaker

needing frequent repairs as the movement can easily be damaged if adjusted while the date is changing. In this watch the pushers automatically deactivate when the calendar changes. It can also be adjusted in any direction. The display is mesmerizing: the skeletonized subdials seem to float and the eye is drawn to the suspended 14mm balance wheel, which regulates precision. The Legacy Machine Perpetual is limited to 25 pieces each in an 18-karat red gold and platinum version. It is the fourth watch in the Legacy Machines collection.

Men’s style

Navy and black make up the bulk of men’s wardrobes, so it was refreshing to see designers offer a rainbow of colored suiting. Alessandro Michele continues to hone his definition of a Gucci man. This red suit is made office appropriate when worn with a crisp white shirt. At Canali, Andrea Pompilio showed bold suiting and tonal sportswear. A classic suit gets a fashion forward refresh in burgundy linen. Inspired by India’s vibrant colors, Berluti’s Alessandro Sartori had one of the brightest collections this season including purple, blue, red, green and yellow. Our favorite is the made-to-measure green suit worn with a matching knit. This season, Pal Zileri showed on the runway for the first time ever with a new vision fromMauro Ravizza. Chloé leather jacket and lace dress

Burberry calfskin trench

All about the lace Lace takes center stage this season with beautiful colors and silhouettes – from the ladylike to the rock and roll. Burberry’s collection from chief executive Christopher Bailey is full of lace. Patchwork, macramé and knitted varieties were showcased in a series of beautiful dresses. Our favorite is a nude trench, which is a laser-cut calfskin that has a floral lace effect. At Vionnet, creative director Goga Ashkenazi presented several new shapes – the macramé floral lace pencil skirt with a sporty tunic gives a cool downtown silhouette. ClareWaight Keller introduced rock and roll to the Chloé collection this season. Gothic black lace and animal prints appeared alongside the signature boho-chic. A soft quilted leather jacket worn over a black lace gown hits the right mix of rock and glamour. For one of his last Balenciaga collections, Alexander Wang included many of the house’s signatures, including peplums, and several looks were layered over a sheer lace slipdress for a sophisticated edge.

1 CHLOE GOSSELIN Emerging designer Chloe Gosselin mixes purple water snake with a few shocks of electric blue suede on her Caladium sandal, keeping it from veering into overly-sweet Easter egg or cotton candy pastels. $1,100, chloegosselin.com

CUBA LIBRE With the US ending the Cuba embargo, designers had Latin flair, steamy Havana nights and the tropics on the mind while designing the Resort collections. At Stella McCartney, hothouse blooms covered dresses perfect for tango and at Proenza Schouler, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough showed tropical prints and pieces with unfinished edges, which represent Havana’s crumbling glamour. 2 PIERRE HARDY Fashion favorite Pierre Hardy fully embraced the chunky-heel trend this season. Patent sandals and platforms offer a 1970s vibe. This sandal with a marbled heel puts all of the focus on the stacked heel and dainty ankle strap. $850, pierrehardy.com

Super-natural color This season, Christian Louboutin was inspired by a futuristic version of nature where colors are extremely bold and vivid, which he calls hyper- nature. Bright colors were seen on shoes, of course, and we love the Sweet Charity bag in an innovative new rainbow-colored python treatment that is

Exquisite gems Each one has a rich backstory and deep meaning – some are influenced by the unique beauty of nature, by the romance of the animal kingdom, by a striking period in history; others by the vibrancy of an unusual stone or the gleam of a luscious pearl. Such is the romance, the magic and the intimacy of this truly personal jeweler.

Fortunately the story ends well. Jewelry

Time on her hands Once upon a time it was considered uncouth for a woman to wear a watch. Thankfully those days are behind us but finding a dressy watch for a special occasion often remains a dilemma. Many turn to high jewelry watches. Van Cleef & Arpels designed one of the first in the 1930s. The Cadenas looked like a bracelet and, cleverly, only the wearer could see the hidden dial. Today jewelry watches can be separated into two groups: watches with jewelry details or jewelry with watch functions. In the first category, we find pieces such as Graff’s bracelets, where the diamonds appear to float on the wrist; Harry Winston’s Art Deco timepiece with a delicate diamond pattern; and de Grisogono’s Grappoli framed by 70 diamonds. On the other hand, we have Van Cleef & Arpels’ Sertie and Cartier’s high jewelry watch that could pass for a diamond bangle. Yet the piece that most resembles jewelry comes from one of watchmaking’s oldest manufacturers, Vacheron Constantin, with a watch face hidden behind a diamond cover, which opens like a locket to reveal the time.

Graff Diamonds’ Lace Watch is limited to 10 pieces and set with 44 carats of fancy-cut diamonds

Vacheron Constantin’s Kalla Haute Couture à Secret has 31.9 carats of round- and flame-cut diamonds

Each de Grisogono Grappoli takes 120 hours to create by hand

DOWN TO THE BOATHOUSE If it hasn’t floated in your direction yet, it soon will. We are talking, of course, about the excitement surrounding Floatwing, a new super high-tech floating home that, when fully-charged by its 334 sq ft of solar panels, is self-sufficient for a week. It was designed by a team of naval architects and industrial engineers from the University of Coimbra in Portugal, the same team behind a conceptual personal submarine. What we love is that it can reach some of the most remote lakes and rivers in the world, allowing you to travel in utter peace and privacy – no traffic, noise or noisy people. Just you and the open water. The spec is pretty impressive and can be built to order with up to three bedrooms. It has a height of 17ft and can measure up to 59ft in length. The design is sleek too, in a pared back, New England style. In short, it’s up there with Philippe Starck’s legendary PATH Series of prefabricated homes in the style stakes – with the added bonus that this one floats. Up to $253,000, gofriday.eu

HOT WHEELS ON ICE

The motoring world continues to go crazy for SUVs and one of the most eagerly awaited arrivals in the category is Bentley’s Bentayga. But how much of a rugged off-roader will it be? The company clearly has confidence in the new model’s off-road credentials, as it will take a starring role in the annual ice-driving challenge, Power on Ice. Running through February on Finland’s frozen lakes, the four-day event (which includes two days of ice-driving training from an expert team led by former rally champion Juha Kankkunen) features the new Bentayga as well as a full fleet of Bentleys, including the sensationally quick Continental GT3-R. There’s also the chance to indulge in local Finnish culture, with experiences from husky safaris to a local smoke sauna, as well as excellent local skiing (Chalet Ruka Peak, the hotel where it’s held, is perched on top of Ruka Fell). Plus, if you’re lucky, you might see the Northern Lights.

TAKE THREE/// TRACK-READY SUPERCARS

1 FERRARI F12TDF A tribute to the 1950s Tour de France endurance race, which Ferrari dominated, this is limited to just 799 cars. Although its billed as an “extreme road car”, the F12tdf is most at home on the track. The 6.3-liter, V12 delivers 769bhp and goes from 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of more than 211mph. With several aerodynamic upgrades to the standard F12, this should be a genuine track star.

HOLLYWOOD CARS

2 MCLAREN 675 LT The LT refers to inspiration taken from 1997’s F1GTR Longtail and this track-ready version of its 675 looks set to create almost as many legends as that did. It is designed as a lightweight track flyer, with 666bhp, 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 205mph. The lack of success in Formula 1 doesn’t seem to have slowed down the firm’s production of winning cars.

There may be a toxic cloud hanging over parts of the car industry at the moment, but there was no lack of exuberance and excitement at the all-important Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of last year. Audi offered a glimpse into 2016 with its top-of-range R8 V10 Plus and its sexy sportback RS7, both offering significant upgrades on previous versions. Alfa Romeo offered its own new sports sedan for 2016, as it debuted the delightful Giulia Quadrifoglio. With a beast of a V6 engine, supplied by Ferrari, the Quadrifoglio delivers an impressive 505bhp and 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 191mph. For Mercedes, Los Angeles was mostly about two new launches – the revamped SL range, where the pick of the bunch is the SL550 AMG V8 and its massive new GLS. If the intention here is to pick a fight with Audi’s new Q7 and the Range Rover Sport, it will also have to argue the toss with the new Bentley Bentayga. If the idea of a Bentley SUV makes you wonder if the market has gone a little mad, top marks to Land Rover for milking that madness by offering up the Range Rover Evoque convertible. This is a convertible SUV. Make of that whatever you will, but

3 MERCEDES AMG GT3 If you want to pick a winner in motor racing right now, Mercedes is the place to start judging by its Formula 1 success. This replacement for its popular SLS AMG GT3 was introduced earlier this year. It includes a monster 6.2-liter V8, possibly the last appearance for this fine engine.

expect a flood of roofless off-roaders soon. There was more sense from Jaguar, which is looking forward to a revival of its top of the range luxury sedan, the XJ in 2016, while Porsche is sticking to what it does best this year, with the gorgeous new 911 Targa 4s looking like a whole heap of fun.

Group trips aren’t usually our thing – all that mass market catering, tourist- rammed landmarks, not to mention being cooped up with complete strangers. But we make a rare exception for Aman Private Jet Journeys, not least because you travel on one of Aman’s plush private jets, but also because the group size is refreshingly small. Just 16 guests will attend the next trip, which kicks off on March 6. The party will share two jets between them, both slick Gulfstream 200s. Friction Training Delivers Results inOnlyMinutes Each Day N utrition experts, world-class Olympic athletes and people with joint or weight problems

are reporting significant improvements to their core strength after trying fric- tion training for just minutes a day. The all-important core muscles give people balance for sports or going about their daily routines. Team USA Olympic swimmer Mike Alexandrov has even incorporated the patented friction-based Lynx Board into his training regimen ahead of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Ë Team USA has access to the best possible training equipment anywhere in the world but the Lynx Board can give even elite athletes a total body workout in just minutes a day, Ì Alexandrov explained. Unlike other fitness devices, the Lynx Board É s friction surface uses body weight to provide counter resistance as the user glides in rhythmic pre- cision along a specially engineered surface with a full 360-degree range of motion that will not damage joints. With more than 800 specially designed training techniques that target all major muscle groups, the Lynx Board

is already so popular that the Miami- based Lynx Fitness company has begun free same-day deliveries of its popular travel model to area hotels when guests order through LynxFitness.com. Good core stability has been scientif- ically proven to improve posture and counter the effects of poor posture and back problems so prevalent in our technology-driven lifestyles.
