Flight of fancy

A private banquet inside an Icelandic volcano

Feeling the heat comes with a whole new meaning this winter as bespoke travel company Jacada launches a lavish, high-octane volcano experience in Iceland. Guests start at a remote lodge so exclusive it doesn’t even have a name, though it does come with a helipad, hot tub and space for eight to 10 people. From here, they are collected by helicopters and flown into the Thrihnukagigur volcano, where they can dine in the magma chamber of the (now dormant) crater. And if all that is not enough to get your adrenaline pumping, add in a guided hike to the Langökull glacier, where a private tunnel and man-made ice cave have just opened. From $19,150 per person per night for a customized trip, including lodge accommodation, breakfast and dinner, tours, services of an Icelandic chef, heli-transfers and a 4x4 at your disposal (based on two sharing). To make a reservation contact George Warren, director of travel design at Jacada Travel, on +44 207 619 1380 or email george@jacadatravel.com
