ÎLE AUX CERFS GOLF CLUB, Île aux Cerfs, Mauritius

There are many golf courses in Mauritius, but this is the prettiest, located on a small island just off the east coast. Designed by Bernhard Langer and reached via a short boat trip from the mainland, the course wends its way through a fairytale landscape of tropical vegetation, with breathtaking views of the neighboring turquoise lagoon. But don’t be deceived by the setting – this is a tough championship-level course that will test the best golfers. And while you’re here Head to the nearby Anahita course, designed by Ernie Els. You’re spoiled for choice for golf courses in Mauritius but this one shouldn't be missed either. Where to stay Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, a longstanding Mauritian favorite, just a short distance up the coast from Île aux Cerfs. It recently reopened following an extensive renovation and its all-new Sega Bar should not be missed (turn to page 50 to read more). Neighboring tropical haven Ilot Mangénie is open only to the resort’s guests and has its own beach club. Best room The three secluded Beach Villas offer the ultimate in luxury and privacy, with 24-hour butler service. Price From $43,200 per week shangri-la.com
