USING EXPRESS LIBRARIES Note: To do all exercises, the Walsworth Enhancements from Support Download must be installed on each workstation, and the Using InDesign Activities folder must be copied to your desktop from Support Download. Express Libraries are portions of pre-designed layouts, such as headline treatments, scoreboards or photo groupings. Use these layouts to put graphic elements on your pages. Practice opening libraries and placing elements on your page. 1. Open the file named L3X3A.indd located in the Using InDesign > Lesson 3 > InDesign CSx folder on your desktop (x is your InDesign version). 2. Go to File > Open. 3. Navigate to the WPCYB folder on the hard drive.

You can create your own libraries by going to File > New Library. Select elements you have custom-made, then drag them into your own personal library so you can use them frequently. Libraries can contain shapes, text and images.

4. Open the Express Library folder. 5. Click to select the Sports Express library. Click OK . 6. Find a scoreboard that will fit in the lower left portion of the spread 7. Click and drag your chosen scoreboard from the Sports Express palette into the page. To finely adjust an element’s position, select the element, then use the arrow keys on the keyboard.

8. The elements will appear as a group on the page and can be moved to the desired location. 9. Select and delete the scoreboard you just placed. Practice ungrouping library items. 1. Open the file named L3X3A.indd located in the Using InDesign > Lesson 3 > InDesign CSx folder on your desktop (x is your InDesign version). 2. Go to File > Open . 3. Navigate to the WPCYB folder on the hard drive. 4. Choose the People Express library. Click OK . 5. Drag a library item that contains several black image windows onto the lower left portion of the spread. 6. Ungroup the library element by going to Object > Ungroup . 7. Click the File > Save As > ExpressLib.indd and save it to the Using InDesign > Lesson 3 folder on your desktop.
