Smooth tool An InDesign tool used to smooth angles or corners of paths created with the Pencil tool. Spread Two facing pages that together create a layout. See double-page spread. Step and repeat An InDesign command that pastes multiple copies of elements at a specific offset. Story Editor A word processor within InDesign CS that allows you to spell-check, see paragraph marks and otherwise work with your text. Stroke The line around any page element. Styles palette An InDesign palette that allows you to set type styles for better consistency in your yearbook. Stylized font A font that has had a style such as bold or italic applied to it using the Type > Type Style menu command or Style buttons in the Control palette. Stylized fonts will not print correctly in your yearbook and must be corrected if they are found. You should always choose the version of the font named for the style you wish to use, such as AWPCTimesBold. Subhead A small headline used to divide copy or a small headline or deck that appears below the main headline. Also known as a secondary headline. Supplement An additional section of the yearbook that is printed separately from the book itself. Supplements are often printed for spring-delivered books to cover subjects such as spring sports and graduation, which happen after the school’s final deadline. Swatch Color swatches that are placed in the Swatches palette and then used to apply color to page elements. Template Previously defined pages created by a design program. The template can be modified and saved as a document, not affecting the original document. Text block In InDesign, text is arranged into text blocks, which can be moved or resized like any other page element. Text frame In InDesign, text is arranged into text frames, which can be moved or resized like any other page element. Text Linker A Walsworth plug-in for InDesign that helps link previously unconnected text blocks. Text on a path Type that is adhered to any path created in InDesign. Created with the Path Type tool.
