The Story Behind those Orange Trucks The distinctive orange trucks that traverse the streets are the face of Cuivre River Electric in the community. But these rolling assets weren’t always an orange-red hue. In the cooperative’s early years, green was the prevailing color of CREC service vehicles. During his first term (1968–1976), former general manager Bill Ramsey introduced the idea of using orange to distinguish the co-op’s service vehicles from other utility providers. The board of directors agreed with him and made it official.

When Ramsey returned for his second term (1982–1990), he had a change of heart about the color. To avoid the expense of custom painting each vehicle, he
