MILLBURN COOPERATIVE SCHOOL 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Millburn Cooperative Nursery School! Come help us celebrate on March 9 from 10am-1pm at St. George’s Church in Maplewood. Millburn Co-op was founded in 1974 in a one-room schoolhouse on the edge of Taylor Park in Millburn. It has since grown from its signature 3s-4s mixed-aged class to include a 2.5s class and a kindergarten bridge program for 5 year olds. (The 3s-4s class is still located in Taylor Park, while the 2.5s and 5s classes are at St. George’s Church in Maplewood.) At “the Co-op,” children learn through play. We follow the children’s lead as they explore their environment and become problem solvers and lifelong learners. Our approach allows each child to grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially at their own pace. Our staff incorporates concepts of Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Adler, and Piaget, with a strong emphasis on socialization and independence. Instilling a love of the environment is also integral to our curriculum. We search for the first robin, dig for earthworms, catch snowflakes on our tongues, care for classroom pets, study animals’ habitats, and celebrate the change of seasons.
