The 43-acre zoo with wildlife trail and aviary is home to hundreds of animals from giant elephants to tiny frogs and charming penguins. The zoo’s impressive conservation e ff orts include a number of on-site initiatives, such as species survival plans and research programs.
Situated adjacent to Onondaga Lake, Syracuse is considered the geographic center of New York State. It’s home to the Erie Canal Museum, which traces the history and impact of the waterway through hands on displays, interactive exhibits and original artifacts, including a full-size canal boat. The museum was founded in 1962 and is housed in the 1850 Weighlock Building. Continue your cultural exploration with a visit to the Everson Museum of Art. Designed by IM Pei, the architecture is as visually striking as the artwork housed within. The permanent collection focuses on American modern and contemporary art and comprises around 10,000 pieces, including one of the largest collection of American ceramics in the country.
