Gilbert, Arizona
In addition to a war going on in Europe, Gilbert was doing the usual things that small farming towns were doing in the era of the 1920s. Some of the town leaders in those days are shown here. On the left is Mick Johnson, who came to Gilbert in 1919 and built “Mickey’s Café,” which he ran for many years; to his right is Leland Barber, who built the Barber Building about 1917, which had a restaurant in it; to his right is Dr. Lucius M. Tompkins, Gilbert’s first doctor who came to Gilbert in 1919; and on his right is Leslie Creed, who came in 1912 with his merchant family.
