RIVER CITYAPPAREL
B right colors. Geometric prints. Peasant dresses. These are the trends available in the Chattanooga Northshore for spring, says River City Apparel owner Anne Kemmerer. Located on Frazier Avenue just steps away fromCoolidge Park, River City Apparel is unique in that its women’s clothing is what Kemmerer calls “trendy classics.” She receives galleries from a buyer in Los Angeles, California, a few times a week. She also attends trade shows in Las Vegas and Atlanta for unique finds. “The hot styles that I’ve seen for this year are a throwback to what my mom would say is the 1970s, what I would say is the early 2000s. My personal favorite is the menswear look, what we’re calling the dad-pant or the wide leg trouser,” she says. “There’s so much color as well. It’s been years of pink and blues; now we’re seeing more yellows and purples and colors that haven’t been available for years.” Kemmerer bought River City Apparel from her parents six years ago when they were looking to retire. The nostalgia of the store, which began as a local outlet and evolved into a boutique where she worked in the summers as a teen, called her back to Chattanooga. “I grew up with this store, so the idea of it changing hands didn’t sound right to me. I was looking for something new. I’ve always loved the store, always loved clothes and fashion. It just seemed like a good fit.”
Looking ahead to spring and summer in the Scenic City, Kem merer says she keeps women of all ages in mind. “We have trendy pieces, but it’s stuff that you’re going to keep for years and years. I like to say that we’ve got something for just about anybody–from the middle school girls who shop in our store to evenmy mother, who is in her 70s. We’ve got things you can’t find anywhere else in town, and we try to keep our prices low. Almost everything in our store is under $70.”
