GLASS BLOWING GLOSSARY: Three Terms To Prep for Your iGNiS Glass Studio Experience
P art hot shop, part gallery, iGNiS Glass Studio gives you the opportunity for a hands-on glass blowing experience. Located within walking distance of the Tennessee Aquarium, Classic Arcade Pinball Museum, and High Point Climbing & Fitness, you’ll work with an experienced glass blower to create a custom work of art. Safe and exciting for customers as young as three years old, you’ll sound like a pro if you show up familiar with the following industry terms: Frit: Crushed, colored glass, frit is what will give your glass creation its hue. Make a reservation with iGNiS, and the first thing you’ll do when your appointment begins is select what you’d like to make – an ornament, a paperweight, or a flower vase. Then an iGNiSglass artist will talk to you about how to achieve the shade and texture you prefer. Blowpipe: A hollow steel rod, the blowpipe is used to take the liquid glass out of the furnace
a hanging loop on top before moving your piece to the annealing oven to cool. After your glass creation is slowly brought to room tempera ture, it will be ready for pick-up the following day, or staff can ship it to your home for $5.
