ROBERT CARROLL “BOB” MOODY , 87, long time Richmond attorney and enthu siastic community preservationist, passed away peacefully at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The story of Bob started at 5:15 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 1937, at the old Pattie A. Clay Hospital on Glyndon Avenue, in Richmond, when he was born to the late George “G.W.” & Elizabeth “Betsy” Wines Moody. His family lived in Union, Ky., during his child hood. He would attend and graduate from Dixie Heights High School. He would enroll and further his education at the University of Kentucky earning a degree in anthropology in 1959 and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Shortly after he join the US Army where he was a member of the Military Intelligence Corps, stationed in Japan during the Cold War, earning the rank of Captain. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army in the early 1960’s, Bob returned to US soil and enrolled in the University of Kentucky School of Law where he completed his J.D. Mr. Moody started practicing law in 1968 and was the oldest member of the Madison County Bar Association at the time of his death. He served as the Richmond City Attorney for 21 years, professor at Eastern Kentucky School of Law Enforcement for several years and was still a member of the City of Richmond Ethics Board at the time of his passing. In 2023, the Richmond City Commission dedicated, and renamed the main road in Richmond Battlefield Park, “Bob Moody Drive”, after Bob in honor of his unwavering efforts of support. Bob’s love for his community was more than just the historical aspect – he enjoyed visiting with his friends and colleagues and often had a story to share. Survivors include: his daughter, Michelle Moody; his sister, Sue Moody Marquardt; niece and nephews, Leslie Merryman (Johnny), Todd Marquardt, and Rick Marquardt (Harue); as well as two great-nieces, two great-nephews and a host of friends. SETH EDWARD FAWNS , age 34, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025. Seth was born April 10, 1991, to Phillip Fawns and Mary King Fawns. He studied anthropology as an undergraduate and graduated from the University of Ken tucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law. He practiced law for nine years and was currently practicing at Kopka Pinkus Dolin Law Office in Lexington. In his free time, he enjoyed digging up artifacts or playing board games and tending to his land, trees and pond. Above all else, he prioritized and cared for his family. Seth is survived by his wife, Courtney (Johnson) Fawns, his daugh ter Emelia Anne Fawns and his son Eric Finch Fawns; his parents Phillip A. Fawns and Mary King Fawns of Mt. Sterling; two brothers Josh (Sam) Fawns and Will (Macy) Fawns of Mt. Sterling; paternal grandpar ents Sonny and Nancy Fawns of Mt. Sterling; nieces and nephews Emerson Fawns, Carter Fawns, Henry Fawns, Jack Fawns, all of Mt. Sterling, and Riley Donaruma and Charlie Donaruma of San Antonio, TX; mother and father in-law Anne and William John son of Fulton, Mo.; and other extended family. On April 7, 2025, GEORGE CHILTON PIPER , the youngest of the four sons of Lewis A. and Anna Z. Piper, passed away. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sally S. Piper, and two children: Jennifer Anne Piper of Lexington and Geoffrey Chilton Piper of Denver. George was born on February 23, 1939 and grew up in Midway, Ky. After his early years in the Midway public school system, he attended Phillips Exeter Acad emy in Exeter, New Hampshire, from 1952 to 1956. After Exeter, he attended Harvard University where he obtained his A.B. Degree in
1960. After Harvard, he enlisted in the Intelligence Corps of the US Army for three years, during which he served as a Special Agent attached to the Special Forces in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from which he was honorably discharged in 1964. After the Army, he enrolled at the University of Kentucky College of Law where he graduated with a J.D. degree in 1967. Upon graduation, he joined the law firm of Martin, Ockerman and Brabant in Lexington, Ky., where he was a law partner for 20 plus years. During this tenure, he obtained a Master of Public Health degree (with a concentration in Legal Medicine) from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1984. In 1992, George and two of his partners, Barbara J. Bowers and Dean T. Wellman, along with their long-tenured and devoted Legal Assistant, Linda F. Peyton, founded the law firm of Piper, Wellman and Bowers (now Piper and Bowers) which specializes in defending clients in the areas of health care, medical malpractice litigation and legal medicine generally. After devoting more than 50 years to the broad professional practice of legal medicine, George retired from his law firm in 2020. George was caring, witty, charming, had an amazing memory and a was good person who cared about others. The preceding memoriam for George C.
