VYPE Concordia Lutheran 2022-23 EDITION
feature SPRING track + fiel d tenni s \\ By Matthew Ogle \\ By Matthew Ogle CONCORDIA LUTHERAN TRACK AND FIELD HAS BEEN KNOWN TO BE ONE OF THE PREMIER GROUPS IN TAPPS-DI IN RECENT MEMORY. This Spring was no different. Led by coaches Bobby Lindquist (boys) and Jacob Vasquez (girls), ‘Sader Nation was a force to be reckoned with throughout the 2023 regular season. Of course, this translated to an even greater showing in the later meets as CLHS had over a dozen athletes qualify for the TAPPS State Meet. When all was said and done at Midway ISD’s Panther Stadium, Concordia Lutheran procured some top finishes. Most notably, senior Ryley Klefstead took gold in the pole vault (14-0), while the boys relay team finished second overall in the 4x400 (1:30.16). Adele Neuhaus (triple jump: 36-10.75) and Sara Ostermiller (discus: 108-3) carried the girls’ banner at State.
CLHS WAS PRODUCTIVE ON THE TENNIS COURT THIS SPRING. After enjoying several standout performances in tournaments against some top-tier competition, coach Mike Schatz had the pleasure of taking a good portion of his team to the TAPPS State Tournament in Waco. Seniors Cecilia Dailey, Chase Cook, Gavin Borne, Josh Henson, Jack Sherman and sophomore Ryan Bell, each qualified to compete in the season finale after performing well at Regionals. However, given the quality of opposition they faced, only the boys doubles team of Chase Cook and Gavin Borne advanced further than the opening round of eliminations at State – with the pair making it all the way to the Final Four. The bar has been set for the future.
