Botanical illustration was professionalized in the 18th century, but few women artists were widely recognized, credited or even published under their own names, despite permeating the natural sciences as independent illustrators. “Woman in Botanical Illustration,” curated by DU’s exhibits librarian and assistant professor Madison Sussman, highlights the works of women who succeeded in studying and practicing botanical art, with examples spanning from the late 1600s to 2022.
