ODDS & ENDS Restored

Libraries aren’t just about books; they’re also about preserving historical artifacts. Introducing the scupper box, a decorative gutter from the original Hebrew Education Alliance Building in Denver. “The scupper box represents a time in Denver Jewish history when the West Side had a substantial Jewish population and religious, ethnic, cultural imagery was front and center

on many buildings—from grocery stores to synagogues,” says David Fasman, metadata technician for the Beck Archives. Acquired by DU through a construction worker who immediately recognized its significance, the scupper box underwent a year long restoration funded by 1Day4DU and was transformed to its original glory.
