In Port A square in the upper left corner of a text frame in InDesign; used to link text frames. InDesign A page design program developed by Adobe. Index An alphabetized list of names and contents that indicates the pages on which each person or item is referenced, usually found in the back of the yearbook. Internal margin The distance between elements (photos, copy blocks, etc.) on the page. Usually one pica. Italic A printing type in which the letters slant to the right, usually used for emphasis. Job number The number assigned to your Walsworth account. Job sticker A sheet of job stickers is found in The Process Kit. They should be used on any hard-copy photos submitted and marked to identify how the photos match up with image windows. You should also place a job sticker on every piece of material you send to Walsworth. JPEG (JPG) Joint Photographers Experts Group. A compression format for digital images. Kerning The amount of horizontal space between two characters. Key command Also known as a keyboard shortcut. A combination of two or more keys which, when pressed at the same time, will initiate an operation on the computer. Keyline In artwork, a line that is placed around a photograph. The term in InDesign is used when the effect at Utilities > Plug-ins > Keyline is applied. Ladder A yearbook blueprint that helps you plan your book by listing the contents of each page. A ladder diagram is found in the Adviser Timeline, the Planning folder in The Process Kit and online in Members Only. Leading The amount of vertical space between two lines of type. Library An InDesign feature that allows you to save items such as graphics or pre-designed page elements in a convenient location for drag-and-drop use. Line art Graphics containing only black and white with no shades of gray. Line tool A tool in InDesign’s Tool palette that allows you to draw straight lines at any angle.
