Ellipse tool/Ellipse Frame tool Tools in the InDesign Tool palette that create rounded shapes. Holding down the Shift key as you draw with the Ellipse or Ellipse Frame tool will create a perfect circle. Endsheets The sheets appearing at the front and back of a book that will be used to line the inside of the cover and help attach the book’s insides to the cover. Enhancements A general term used to refer to all of Walsworth’s plug-ins and desktop products. EPS An encapsulated PostScript file; this is an alternate picture file format that allows PostScript data to be stored and edited and is easily transferred between Mac and Windows operating systems. Erase tool An InDesign tool that erases paths created with the Pencil tool. Express Libraries InDesign libraries created by Walsworth containing templates for various page elements such as headlines, scoreboards, info boxes, survey results and sidebars. Extension Refers to the three or four-letter designation at the end of a file name. Used mostly with Windows files or Mac OS X files; helps to identify the program used to create the file. In the file name 002-003_612345_001. indd, .indd is the file extension. Eyedropper tool An InDesign tool used to sample text characteristics or colors in graphics and apply them to other objects. Feather An InDesign feature that allows you to create soft edges around a photo or page element. File management The process of managing your electronic files for maximum organization and ease of submission. Fill Refers to the inside color of a page or graphic element. Fit In Window An InDesign command that changes the view of your workspace so the entire spread fits within the InDesign window. Flat The front or back of a signature; consists of eight pages. Folder An icon on the computer desktop that looks like a manila file folder; used to hold documents, programs and other information. Folio The page number; may also include artwork or descriptive copy. Font A set of letters, numbers, punctuation marks and symbols that share a unified design. The design is called a typeface. A group of related typefaces is called a type family.
