The Process Manual
To flow portraits: 1. With your portrait pages open in InDesign, click the Flow Portraits button on the Portrait Center. 2. A dialog will ask if you are flowing Portraits or Placeholders to the page. Make your selection by clicking the Portraits radio button. (Note: There could be circumstances where you will want to start building your portrait pages before your actual portrait images are ready. In that case, you can flow placeholders on to the page.) 3. Click the radio button to select what position you want names to appear. Then click Next. 4. Use the drop-down menus to choose how many rows and columns you want to appear on a page, and which group of photos you want to flow on to the page(s). Enter the page you want the flow to start on in the Start on page field. As changes to the settings are made, Portrait Center will calculate how many pages will be needed for the flow and that will appear near the bottom of the window. 5. Once you are ready, click Flow. 6. The portraits you selected will flow on to the page(s). Once complete, a summary screen will be shown. Knock-outs Once portraits have been flowed on to a page, you can apply knock-outs, or pockets of white space, to your portrait pages through the Portrait Center. Simply follow the steps below. To apply a knock-out: 1. After a portrait flow has been completed, click the Knock-outs button on the main Portrait Center palette. 2. The Knock-outs window will open and you will be able to select the spaces you want to remove from the portraits simply by clicking to highlight them. 3. The buttons on the right-side of the window provide different adjustments, including the ability to Knock Out All, Invert or Flip the spaces you have selected. 4. When you are finished making your selections, click Apply .
