The Power of Connections
CREC has always prided itself on keeping the needs and expectations of its members front and center.
Focus on economic development and growth opportunities – CREC’s service area continues to experience residential and commercial growth which means the co-op will need to continue cultivating and revising its economic development strategies. This could include examining territorial agreements, considering incentives, and reviewing rate design. Rates/cost of service – The potential for a different rate design could provide CREC members with more options. Time of use (especially as electric vehicles become more common), new technology, AMI, smart controls, an evolving energy mix, and cost drivers are all things that could impact how CREC’s rate design will transform to best serve its members’ needs. A shift in power supply – The focus on renewables and options for purchasing green power will continue to grow. Delivery of reliable and affordable power is still first and foremost; however, the energy sources for doing so are gradually transitioning. Coal continues to slowly decline while natural gas, wind, hydro, and solar are gaining ground. As technology improves, CREC will be more involved in solar and continue to serve as an informational resource for interested members.
Since 1998, the reliance on coal as a power source has decreased greatly.
