The way members interact with the co-op has also undergone a fundamental change. “When I was first a branch manager in 1991, I would spend several hours a day returning phone calls and writing letters,” Hurd recalls. “That evolved to spending most of my time texting or replying to emails.” Former engineering & operations manager Rick Didion takes pride in the reliable service Cuivre River Electric brings to its members. “From a reliability standpoint, I think we do a superior job of maintaining our lines and keeping the power flowing,” he says. “We spent most of the ‘90s building our system out, adding substations, and investing in the future.” Like all CREC departments, the operations team is guided by a commitment to remain accountable to members. “We work to keep our rates as low as possible and to spend money wisely because we recognize that the members are the ones who are picking up the tab,” he says. The Annual Meeting Evolves Each year, the CREC Annual Meeting provides a forum for members to cast their ballots for members who are candidates running for open board positions as well as
