The First Hundred Years: Clearwater Yacht Club, 1911-2011
Hanson, and Ann Railey. Four women (Jean Levine, Virginia Curry, Theresa Kresge, and Denise Cone) have helped to promote the club’s mission to “ assist in making members more proficient in seamanship and navigation ” by taking advantage of the Coast Guard Captains License courses organized by the Cruisers. A number of women have served on the Board of Directors and several have chaired the club’s major standing committees. Judy Widger and Fay Nicholson both chaired the Yachting Committee and Brenda Hanson was chair of the Entertainment and House and Grounds Committees in her years as rear and vice commodore (2009, 2010). Liz Phillips served as a trustee. Kathleen Lamb was the club’s first female commodore in 1999– 2000. One hundred years after the original articles of incorporation specified that club membership was to be limited to “white men,” Sandie Ramsden is at the helm as commodore in CYC’s centennial year.
