Show Me the Ozarks September 2022
When thinking of water, most people think of the color of the sea or ocean. These colors extend from light and deep blues to beautiful aqua colors. So, even if you do not incorporate water itself, you can incorporate the colors of water in your paint choices or accessories. This bathroom is colorful and yet calming with the pop of blue from the stand-alone tub, which matches perfectly with the wall color behind it. The open shelving adds an area for pretty and organized storage and the display of more natural-wood elements. All of this is balanced with the addition of a wood floor and wood counters. The blue color pairs perfectly with the brown, cream and blue wallpaper, and the white stone sinks really stand out in this nature inspired bathroom.
A fireplace is high on the list of items homeowners ask for when looking for a home or building a home. It becomes a focal point in a room year-round. Many happy memories are made sitting around the fireplace in the colder months and decorating it for Christmas with garland and stockings. The materials used to finish the exterior of a fireplace can be your traditional brick or stacked stone, but you are not limited to those. Many people are choosing to finish their fireplace with stucco, full slabs of quartz or stone and even metal for an industrial look. An outdoor fireplace or firepit provides a place to sit outside and enjoy cooking hot dogs and smores while supplying much needed outdoor time with family.
Stone, whether real stone added to a wall or items that look like stone, truly bring natural elements to your home. Adding large stones into your outdoor flower beds will bring nature right up to your front door. Inside your home, natural stone can be laid on your floors, or consider adding pebbles on your shower floor. For your countertops, you can add granite with varying colors and patterns for a very earthy or sophisticated look depending on the amount of movement, texture or color. It can also extend up the wall for a beautiful backsplash. Plants and flowers add our final element of nature to our homes. In spring, we can add brightly colored flowers into our decorating with flowering plants on our front porches and patios. In fall, the beautiful colors of autumn can replace the spring flowers. Year round, you can add large potted fiscus trees into the corners of your living room or bedroom. Twigs can be cut and placed in transparent glass vases for year-round texture and color. If you are like me and cannot keep a plant alive inside your home, silk florals will add color and texture just as well. To add even more natural elements to your home, consider a walk outside to find inspiration. If you live near a beach, pick up seashells and display them in a clear container along with some sand. Driftwood, whether from the ocean or a lake, will be beautiful and add a lot of texture when mounted on the wall. Wood beams add texture to your ceiling while drawing the eye up and making the room feel larger. A display of seasonal fruit or veggies sitting in a wooden tray on your kitchen island is colorful and beautiful. Natural elements are all around us outside. Bring some of them into your home to help you relax and enjoy your home. Naturally!
