September 16: The Woman’s Club of Joplin Game Day “Fun” Raiser for Ronald McDonald House of the Four States: 10:30 am, Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. Gather your group, bring your cards, dominoes or board games and play the game of choice. Entry fee is $5 per person with all proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House of the Four States. Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center, 201 West Riviera Drive, Joplin, MO. The Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center is your local connection to Missouri’s fish, forests and wildlife. Check out the native plant landscaping, exhibits or hike the trails. Purchase a fishing or hunting permit, attend a nature program or watch for wildlife along the trails and banks of Shoal Creek. Enjoy a variety of free public programs throughout the year. Call or stop by our office to find out about naturalist-conducted programs and hikes. Education Center is open Tuesday-Friday 9 am-5 pm and Saturday 10 am-3 pm. Closed Sunday, Monday and most state holidays. September 1: Pollinator Workshop, 6 pm. This workshop is designed to teach landowners the importance of pollinators. It will go over how to design and create pollinator plots on a small-scale and large-scale basis. There will be a tour of the various pollinators and native plantings around Shoal Creek. September 9: Little Acorns: Bear Tales, 10:30 am. Recommended for ages 3 to 7. Where do black bears go in winter? How many live in Missouri? Are black bears the only type of bear living in our state? Join us to answer these questions and learn about the tales of black bears. September 15: Amazing Monarchs (virtual), 10 am or 6 pm. Learn more about the lifecycle and migration of these beautiful butterflies before they quietly flutter away to their winter hibernaculum in Mexico. September 17: Monarch Festival, 10 am-3 pm. Enjoy a fun-filled day as we celebrate the migration of monarch butterflies. Stop by any time to get up close with caterpillars and butterflies and participate in citizen science as we catch and tag butterflies, if available. Activities include crafts, games and more. September 17: Native Plant Sale, 10 am-2 pm. Drop by any time at this free event to purchase native plants for your landscaping needs. Vendors will
