Learn the basics of using the Cricut vinyl cutter. Learn how to assemble a design for heat transfer vinyl in Design Space, the Cricut cutting software. You’ll cut the design, weed it and learn how to transfer it to a supplied canvas tote using supplies you have in your home. If you’d prefer to apply it to a garment, you can bring one to the workshop. Feel free to bring your laptop to have the software uploaded for you to use during the class. $40 per person. September 3 & 4: A Genius Remembered: George Washington Carver, 1 pm. A 30-minute film explores the life of George Washington Carver, told by people who knew him and by others whose work was influenced by his legacy. September 10: Prairie Day, 10 am-3 pm. Celebrating life on the Missouri prairie during the late 1800s when George Washington Carver was a child. This event includes basket weaving, candle-making, Dutch-oven cooking, spinning, weaving, storytelling, musical groups, quilting, a junior ranger station and more. September 17: Neosho Historic Schoolhouse Program, 1 pm. Join a park ranger for a special offsite program at 639 Young Street in Neosho, MO. This is the location of what was historically known as the Neosho Colored School George Washington Carver attended in 1876. Learn about his time in Neosho and the African American struggle for an education. September 18: Casting A Legacy - An Outdoor Art Walk, 1 pm. Join a park ranger for a short walk near the visitor center, exploring commemorative artwork along the trail. Learn about the artists and how they were inspired to create the bust of George Washington Carver and the Boy Carver statue. Stop by the bronze commemorative plaque and consider the establishment of this national park. September 24: National Public Lands Day, 10 am-3 pm. This is a nationwide, volunteer-led workday to improve public lands. Volunteer at George Washington Carver National Monument to help preserve the 240-acre site and the natural environment that inspired young George.

Explore different art techniques. Feel free to bring something you are working on. September 10: Fused Glass PocketVase, 10 am-1 pm. Artist: Dianne Miller. Create three pocket vases to keep or give as gifts. You will create a design by arranging cut pieces of glass and adorable embellishments on a white glass base. Special ceramic paper will be sandwiched between your glass design layer and a clear base ready to fire in the kiln. The result is a pocket vase that holds water. Experience is not required. All supplies, tools, instructions and kiln-firing are included in the workshop fee. Please wear close-toed shoes when working with glass. Protective eyewear is available if you do not wear glasses, or you may bring your own. $45, payable at time of registration. Class limit: 10; 14 years and older. September 17: Hot Dirty Pour! 2-4 pm. Artist: Debbie Southard. In this workshop, we will do a technique called a “Dirty Pour,” but your neck should not get dirty and gritty! All supplies and instruction are provided. Once varnished, your art is touchable and can be wiped off easily with a damp cloth to clean. All experience levels welcome. $35, payable at time of registration. Class limit: 10; 14 years and older. September 23: Spin Art Returns to ArtWalk, 5-8 pm. Artist: Debbie Southard. Join this class to be held in front of ArtForms Gallery during Art Walk! If you want to have some fun and spin some art, join us at Art Forms Gallery. This is a come-and-go event. Participants must pick up painting the next week due to wet paint. All supplies and instruction are provided. All experience levels welcome. $20, payable at ArtWalk inside ArtForms Gallery. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
