The Face of FAMILY PRACTICE Harold Smart, DO - Freeman Lamar Family Care As a family practice physician, Dr. Harold Smart plays the role of a medical leader through his patients’ healthcare journey. “I’m often a patient’s first point of contact, so I’m often the one making the first diagnosis of a medical concern,”Dr. Smart said. “From there, I’m a counselor helping the patient do what they need to do to and guiding them through the recovery process.” Dr. Smart enjoys watching patients grow up in the practice and following generations of family members. He and his staff strive to always see patients when they might wake up sick, working them in throughout the day, no matter how busy they are. While his days are very busy, Dr. Smart manages his time efficiently. He starts his day with a 5-mile run before heading into the office. There, he reviews lab results and calls patients to notify them about their labs as well as returns phone calls. Then, he spends the rest of his day in clinic seeing patients. Dr. Smart is proud to be a consistent provider in both Carthage and Lamar, always putting his patients first. Outside of work, Dr. Smart enjoys golfing, running and traveling.
