Christian College and previously worked as an administrative assistant at a church, in human resources and accounts payable and as a paraprofessional at Pioneer Trail Elementary. Originally from Jefferson City, she and her family lived in San Antonio, Texas and Wilmington, Illinois before returning to Missouri in 2020. Why MSTA? I love that MSTA is an organization that helps and supports teachers. Since my children started school, I have always looked for ways to help their classroom teachers. During my time as a paraprofessional, I really was able to see first-hand the challenges and joys of being in the classroom. I believe that teachers have the power/influence to change lives and encourage students in furthering their education. MSTA is an opportunity to continue to support the teachers in my community and throughout Missouri. What have you learned so far at MSTA? I have been learning a lot about accounts receivable and the opportunities MSTA provides for training. Also, I have met many amazing people already and am excited to continue to get to know the staff and members of MSTA. What’s a fun fact about you? I play the violin and acoustic guitar. I started playing violin in 5th grade at school and still enjoy playing. I began learning acoustic guitar in college. What do you like to do for fun? I like to spend time with my family. My husband and I enjoy taking our boys on family adventures to explore new or historical places or try something new. We also love spending time playing board games, shooting hoops, and going to their athletic and music events. We know this time is precious and will be gone before we know it.

completing her undergraduate studies, Kari continued her education and earned her Masters in Educational Administration from William Woods University in 2014. Her career in education includes over 12 years of teaching experience in the Owensville area. She started as an 8th-grade Social Studies teacher, then moved on to teach Physical Education and Health. Kari later worked in the ISS/Alternative room, providing support and guidance to students who needed additional attention and assistance. For the past year, she has served as principal of Cuba High School. Outside of work, Kari enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and volunteering in her community. Why MSTA? I LOVE this organization and the support MSTA gives to teachers. It is amazing to see how MSTA supports education professionals in navigating their careers. What do you look forward to learning at MSTA? I look forward to learning more about the political decisions that are made about education and how I can help our legislators make decisions that will benefit public education. My goal for a 2nd career is to be a state legislator. What’s a fun fact about you? In high school, I competed in a World Sports Acrobatics competition in Paris, France.

MSTA Leadership Conference Relocates to Columbia

After meeting for many years at Margaritaville (formerly Tan-Tar-A) Resort in Osage Beach, MSTA’s annual Leadership Conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in July. Leaders will gather to share ideas, gain professional development skills and prepare for the new school year. The event is not open to general MSTA membership, but many exciting opportunities will be available to registered CTA leaders. Ask your MSC how to get further involved in MSTA and become a leader! We would love to have you next year.
