South Orange-Maplewood Adult School (SOMAS) is celebrating its 90th year with a vibrant fall catalog. With over 100 classes and a wide range of events, SOMAS offers something for everyone. From lectures by experts like Alexander Motyl on the Russian invasion of Ukraine to Stephen Whitty’s exploration of indie films’ influence on Hollywood, there’s plenty to learn and discuss. Matt Konwiser delves into artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on individuals and businesses. Carol Simon Levin impersonates Emily Warren Roebling, the remarkable woman behind the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, while Janet Mandel presents captivating art history lectures. SOMAS also offers exciting events and day trips, including the Arthouse Film Festival and Meadowlands Eco-Cruise. Food enthusiasts can enjoy Oktoberfest Beer-Pairing Dinners and Wine-Pairing Dinners at local establishments. Fitness options abound with classes like Bollywood, Pilates, Yoga, T’ai Chi, Zumba, and ‘Couch to 5k’. Unleash your creativity with a full range of studio art classes, creative writing, and performing arts. SOMAS also offers classes on personal enrichment and financial growth. Teenagers can explore animation, golf, skincare, and music. Support SOMAS’s mission by attending the Decades Dance Party fundraiser on October 20. Dance, enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and participate in a silent auction.
