Their growing social circle further integrates the entire family into the SOMA community. “We knew that raising our children with their grandparents would enrich their lives,” Kait says. “The thing we didn’t anticipate was how much it enriches ours.” Last summer, Kait and Nathan invited Patrick Parker, former Associate Artistic Director of the Papermill Playhouse, to a reading of The Great Gatsby, which is their first project that they’ve written together. “Doing a show at a Tony-award-winning regional theater like the Papermill is a goal for any writer, but it’s in our own backyard, so this really was the dream for us,” says Kait. Patrick shared it with Mark Hoebee, the theater’s Artistic Director. Soon, conversations began with the producer of The Great Gatsby and the show opened this year’s 85th season with a sold-out run. Nathan adds, “Being able to run home and put our kids to bed on the dinner break during our tech rehearsals has made all the difference.” Life doesn’t stop when The Great Gatsby opens. The family travels to London the following week for the opening of The Time Traveller’s Wife in the West End. Kerrigan wrote additional lyrics and the whole family is going for a much-needed vacation.
