SOMA Living May 2023

a happy girl who loves to watch Blippi, dance around the house, and play with dolls.” The family has found support and a sense of community here from a group that a local mom started on facebook called SOMA Peer Support and Action Network for IEP/504/Ei families. Pavitra shared, “There are many neurodivergent children that live here and they should have an equal space in SOMA. The members of this Facebook group are doing meaningful work and making a difference to many people here in town. We are so proud to be a part of it.” Pavitra plans to return to work in a school one day, but for now, she is focused on being an advocate for her daughter and fighting to get her the opportunities she deserves. The Galdi family’s story is a beautiful testament to the power of resilience and community. In Maplewood, they found a place to call home, where they can raise their children within a varied and accepting neighborhood. Pavitra reflects, “I would have never imagined this is where I’d be or what my life would be like - if you asked me 10 years ago - but this is exactly where we are meant to be. Maplewood definitely feels like home.” They credit their ability to overcome challenges to their close-knit family and the wonderful people they have met along the way.
