THE GALDI FAMILY

The Galdi family’s journey began in 2006 when Pavitra and Antony met through a mutual friend (during Pavitra’s senior year at Boston University). After graduation, Pavitra moved to NYC where Antony lived and soon their friendship turned into more and they started their lives a couple. In 2012, the couple had a week-long wedding celebration in Turks and Caicos, honoring their love with both an Indian and American ceremony. They continued to grow their life together in Brooklyn, where they welcomed their first child, a boy named Kai. The family is proud of their mixed cultural backgrounds and appreciates the range of cultures among residents of Maplewood. The Galdi’s celebrate festivals like Holi and Diwali and enjoy eating Indian food together that Antony cooks. They also plan to travel to India to visit Pavitra’s grandparents. Like many, the Galdi’s experienced their fair share of hardships over the past few years. After moving to Maplewood, they quickly learned that Rumi was not hitting her milestones and their journey into early intervention began. They eventually discovered that Rumi has a rare genetic neuro developmental disorder called USP7. Despite the challenges, the family has remained positive and hopeful, and Rumi is making great progress with the help of therapy, doctors, and the unwavering love and support of her family and community. Her brother, Kai is her biggest cheerleader. He adores his sister and to him, “She’s just Rumi. The same old Rumi that she’s always been:
