SOMA Living May 2023
LYNN V. PROFETA FIELD On Saturday, April 22 The Lynn V. Profeta Field, at the Underhill Sports Complex in Maplewood, reopened with a SOMA community-wide celebration. The event was a fantastic collaboration between CHS Cougar Boosters, Alumni, and CHS Activities & Athletics Dept. Students from the acapella group, marching band, as well as student athlete captains participated in the dedication. Local leaders such as Maplewood Mayor Dean Dafis and South Orange Village President Sheena Collum were present, along with Board of Education members. The field was dedicated with remarks from former Maplewood Mayor and benefactor Fred Profeta, CHS Principal Frank Sanchez, and CHS Director of Activities and Athletics Rich Porfido. Jamie Fardin, who received the CHS award for the National Women in Sports Day for her varsity lacrosse and volleyball accomplishments, performed the ceremonial ribbon cutting. To top it all off, the Columbia High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse team claimed victory in their home game on the new field.
