Daniel Butkus, is a 12th grader at Columbia High School. His friends call him Dan, and he is an ac complished athlete with a passion for running. Daniel has participated in track and field events throughout his high school career, including winter track, spring track, and cross country. As an athlete, he has been the captain of his cross country, spring track, and win ter track teams for the CHS Cougars.

As a Junior, Dan took third place in both the 1,600-meter run in 4:35.53 and the 3,200-meter run in 10:21.74 at the Super Essex Conference–American Division championships. He credits his coach, Taylor Iraggi, with inspiring him and providing him with the necessary guidance to achieve his athletic goals. Outside of athletics, Daniel enjoys reading books and spending time with his friends. His favorite school subjects are math and chemistry, and he hopes to become an engineer when he grows up. Daniel is a fan of Bruce Springsteen and enjoys eating Indian food at his favorite restaurant, Tandoori Chef. Daniel’s tips for success as a student athlete are to manage time wisely, put “student” before “athlete,” and be dedicated to your sport. He believes in taking his athletic pursuits seriously and encourages others to do the same. With his passion for running and his dedication to success, Daniel is sure to achieve great things in his future.

ABOUT DR. BASS If one word were used to describe Dr. Wayne J. Bass, it would be “community.” As one who has served on the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce for a number of years, Dr. Bass understands the needs of the community and strives to achieve excellence with every appointment.
