GET TO KNOW... BRYAN UMIKER What brought you to live in SOMA/ When? My wife had coworkers that lived in Maplewood, and we came out to visit them and fell in love with the community. Family: Wife, April Heeren, married for 27 years. Kids, Grace and Owen. Last text message I sent: Love it!!!

The one thing I love most about SOMA: The people. SOMA is a rare and precious place, unlike any other. The openness and friendliness of this community is truly special, and having lost it for a short time, our family will never take it for granted again. Favorite SOMA festival or event: SOMA Flag Football Championship Sunday, Columbia High School musical “Must order” item at my favorite SOMA restaurant (item/restaurant): Toro Loco – the fajitas. Our family has been going to Toro Loco 3 or 4 times a month for like the past 20 years. We love that place.

Education: Bachelors – South Dakota State University (my wife and I both grew up in South Dakota)

Masters – Rutgers University (which brought us to NJ)

Current Profession: Owner of The Ethical Mattress Company, located in Millburn NJ I’ve been in the mattress business for over 20 years, first as a buyer for Bloomingdale’s, and most recently as a Vice President for Casper. It’s been a dream of mine to open my own store, and I decided to go for it.
