“Integration through the Arts” programs bring together people of different races and cultural backgrounds to build authentic relationships through shared art projects. Throughout 2023,

local professional artists will lead small groups of racially diverse SOMA residents to create individual art projects called “Circles”. The project combines art education, individual creative expression, interracial interaction, and community engagement using small group workshops, public exhibits, performances, and community discussion. The long term impact of these projects is creative, sustainable communities. This year’s Circles include a wide variety of art forms to facilitate group interaction. No artistic skill is required, but curiosity and enthusiasm are encouraged! • March: Circle 1, Public Murals with Roberta Melzl • April: Circle 2, Opera Enrichment with Lori Brown Mirabal • May: Circle 3, Theatrical Improvisation with Clark Jackson • June: Circle 4, Mosaic Project with Sandra Charlap • July: Circle 5, Learn to Juggle with Sandra Leith • September: Circle 6, Public Stone Path with Roberta Melzl • October: Circle 7, Journey to Percussion/Shekere with Ahmondylla Best • November: Circle 8, Newsroom Art with Jasmine Carter Work with a diverse group of neighbors as you explore your creative side.
