ARTIST OF THE MONTH
DAVE GILES
What does it mean to be an artist in today’s world? For Dave Giles, it’s about blending creativity, emotion, and community to forge connections and tell stories that resonate. Originally from Detroit, MI, Dave’s journey through urban landscapes like Newark, Philadelphia, and Chicago has profoundly shaped his artistic voice. These cities—alive with contrast and texture—have inspired his work and molded his approach to life and art. A dedicated artist and creative professional, Dave’s commitment to community remains central to his mission. He has collaborated with local businesses such as The Cannaboss,
SOMA Studio Arts, and D&I Fitness, using his expertise in digital marketing, social media, and design to help them thrive. His creative contributions extend beyond visual art into filmmaking, with documentaries showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival, archived at Harvard University, and displayed at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Dave’s art, rooted in movement, light, and emotion, reflects his childhood experiences, including formative painting trips with his grandfather. His evolving artistic process spans multiple mediums, and he plans to return to oil painting, printmaking, and sculpture, further expanding his creative exploration. Exhibited in Detroit, New York, Arles, France, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, Dave’s work is sold both locally and online. Currently, he is creating new pieces inspired by local landmarks while preparing to launch the Aude School of Artists in Quillan, France, where artists will gather to learn and collaborate. Dave will divide his time between SOMA and Quillan, nurturing his vision for an artistic haven and creative exchange.
