Maplewood Middle School’s Charlie Bryce and his brother Henry, from Delia Bolden Elementary School, are our Musi cians of the Month. Charlie, 12, and Henry, 8, share a pas sion for music that extends across their household and com munities. Charlie began striking the piano keys when he was four years old and recently expanded his instrumental repertoire. “In school, I learned clarinet last year, and this year I’m playing bassoon in both the band and honor’s band,” he shared. This diversity in instruments highlights his love for music’s technical side. “I really like how technical the piano is, how you really have to work hard to play something beautifully.” Henry, who began playing piano at five, has an innate de sire to brighten others’ days with his music. “I enjoy making people happy with my pieces,” he explains. Inspired by his brother to pursue music, Henry is not only devoted to the pi ano but also has his sights set on learning the saxophone be cause, as he says, “I like the way it looks.” Beyond their musical pursuits, the brothers are active in sports, enjoying tennis, golf, skiing, and even fencing. While Char lie’s academic interests lie in Language Arts and Math, Henry favors Math and Science. Their musical inspirations are just as diverse. Charlie loves Adele for her soulful voice, especially cherishing the song “Hello.” Meanwhile, Henry admires Ariana Grande, capti vated by her vocal talent. With their numerous extra-curricular activities, good grades, and dedication to playing instruments, the Bryce brothers are living proof that the less spare time you have, the less time you waste!
