Millroad Threshermen Steam, Gas & Threshing Show

by Rural Heritage E ach year, on the second weekend in August, the Millroad Thresherman Association host a Steam, Gas & Threshing Show. If you visit, you will see plenty of steam engines, antique tractors and hit-and miss engines, as the name of the event implies, but you'll also see draft horses and mules at work in the demonstration fields performing a wide variety of tasks.

The first show was in 1982 and the group incorporated in 1984 with the mission of preserving and demonstrating “farming as our grandfathers and great-grandfathers knew it.” It is held at the Effingham County Fairgrounds, 722 E Cumberland Rd, Altamont, IL 62411. Next year’s event will be Aug 8–9, 2026
