POTTSBORO EMERGENCY SERVICES POTTSBORO POLICE
T he Pottsboro Police Department is responsible for protecting and serving more than 3,000 residents and patrols more than 3 square miles of city streets, neighborhood’s and highways each day. “It’s a great community as well as a safe community”, says Pottsboro Police Chief Shone Nix. “The crime rate is low in our area and I don’t be lieve that’s a coincidence. I think this is due to the good enforcement work we do here.” The department employees 9 full-time officers and 1 code enforcement officer. “The longevity of our officers, through time and service, is good”, says Nix. “We rarely have anyone leave. We have 1 officer that’s been with us for more than a decade and several others that are 5+ years.” With a tight-knit department, Nix says Pottsboro officers rely heavily upon one another for support, while we also have the unique opportunity to see all cases through. “With the size of our department, any cases we catch out here, we work it from beginning to end”, says Nix. “We conduct the investigations on it all the way until it’s filed with the District Attorney’s office for prosecution.” Nix says the officers often assists deputies of the Grayson County Sheriff’s office with calls near Lake Texoma and handles hundreds of calls each year in it’s own jurisdiction. “We wear many different hats out here”, says Nix. “Sometimes we encounter people when we are enforcing traffic or crimi nal laws and they aren’t always happy about that. But when we have the other calls that allow us to respond, assist and do whatever we can to help people, and that’s rewarding”.
The Pottsboro Police Department is located at 411 Franklin Avenue and can be reached for non-emergency assistance by calling 903-786-5202
In 2021, the department added another officer to the staff, but this officer is the furry kind. Chief Nix was able to se cure a grant along with some generous donations from local business owners to launch a K9 program. Ursa has al ready been a great asset to our agency by locating drugs, patrolling the school campuses and interacting with citizens in our community. Since joining us, Ursa has also been deployed multiple times with some federal agencies and regional criminal interdiction units, resulting in the location and seizure of narcotics.
