Athletes of the month By Maddie Clark Anna Duehring - Senior - Girls’ Hockey Josiah Vandenberg - Senior - Boys’ Swimming 1. How did you get in- volved in hockey?
1. How did you get involved in swimming? My older brother Jonah started swimming first and instead of sitting bored at all of his swim meets, I decided to join too and quickly fell in love with the sport. 2. What was your favorite moment from swimming this season? My favorite moment from the high school season was watching our team come together for a fantastic meet at conference. Our team was a majority first time swimmers and it was amazing to see how far they had come from the beginning of the season as they all had great times at conference in their races. 3. What is your favorite thing about swimming? I love swimming for the great people I meet through the sport and for how it is a sport where I can truly test
think people should come to meets to support our school and just to check out something new. I didn’t know swimming was a sport until the year I started and definitely didn’t think I would be doing it for 9 years and counting. It is a sport I stumbled across and loved, so I think there are students who, if they tried it, would also love the sport. 5. What goals do you have for swimming? Now that the season is over and I look toward the summer season, I always have the goals of being a better teammate and swimmer, to strive harder and get faster, and to swim in college for a great team and school next fall.
It’s kind of a family thing, all three of my older siblings played at the time and my dad was a hockey coach so I wanted to play too. 2. What was your favor- ite moment from hockey this season? I would have to say beat- ing the Bay Area Ice Bears 2-0 was my favorite mo- ment of the year. It had been 5 years since the last time we beat them. 3. What is your favorite thing about hockey? Nothing is more enjoy- able than stepping onto the ice with my best friends ev- ery day. The intensity of the game is something that will be very hard to live without. 4. Why do you feel peo- ple should come to hock- ey games? Hockey is a super en- tertaining sport in general, and the atmosphere of a
hockey game combined with the excitement of my team is something you don’t want to miss out on. 5. What goals do you have for hockey? My main goal for myself for hockey is to push myself in everything I do, on and off the ice, in hopes that I am not only benefitting me but also my teammates. For those in NHS, it’s pretty easy hours, but more importantly I feel that swimming is one of the lesser supported sports at our school but one we are really strong at. I
