Clare Smyth MBE is the fi rst and only British female chef whose restaurant holds three Michelin stars in the UK. However, it’s a label of which she isn’t particularly fond. As Smyth herself explains: “Sometimes I feel it can inspire people, but I’m not a fan of automatic labels for anybody. Why should the label of your gender go before being a chef? It’s not about being male or female,” she continues. “I feel like we need to put more focus on making sure people from all backgrounds and cultures work in hospitality, because having people coming at things from di ff erent points of view makes us so much more tolerant and understanding of society, and of our guests.” The celebrated chef sits down with Elite Traveler ’s Irenie Foreshaw at the Festival des Etoilés at Hôtel de Paris in Monaco to discuss the chef's meteoric rise and how she has made her mark in the world of fi ne dining. claresmyth.com p80

Corey has been with Elite Traveler for six years as SVP of Multimedia and is based in New York. He recently swapped the Big Apple’s skyline for the soaring peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. He spent six days camping and climbing the formidable mountain and its volcanic cones in a personal campaign to support organ donors worldwide. In a cause close to his heart, Corey donated a kidney to his younger brother in 2014, and has since embarked on a series of grueling challenges (including a skydive and completing the New York City Marathon just two years after donating his kidney) in a quest to prove that even after organ donation, it’s still possible to tick o ff these bucket list goals. Victoria Daskal is a wine writer, educator and judge with over 15 years of experience in the wine industry. Formerly managing editor of The World of Fine Wine ( Elite Traveler ’s sister publication), she is currently a stage two candidate for the prestigious Masters of Wine program. She is also the founder of the Mummy Wine Club, an award-winning wine subscription club and events company based in London. She is a passionate wine educator, certi fi ed by WSET, where she teaches Levels 1, 2 and 3 at the WSET School in London Bridge.
