Passalacqua, Suite Bellini MOLTRASIO, ITALY

Nestled on the shores of Lake Como within an 18th-century villa, this intimate hotel features just 24 suites spread across three buildings. Passalacqua is the sister property of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo — a much larger, equally luxurious hotel that also overlooks the glittering lake. The De Santis family spent $20m painstakingly restoring the villa, and the results are nothing short of spectacular. Within the main villa, you’ll fi nd the Suite Bellini, where Vincenzo Bellini composed two of his most famous operas. The lavish suite features a breathtaking reception room with double-height vaulted ceilings and a grand piano in the corner. There’s also an impressive marble-clad bathroom with a freestanding tub. From $10,000 per night. Contact Silvio Vettorello, general manager, silvio.vettorello@passalacqua.it, +39 334 858 2575, passalacqua.it

Kisawa Sanctuary, Kisawa Residence MOZAMBIQUE Kisawa Sanctuary opened its doors last summer on the southern tip of Benguerra Island, eight miles o ff the coast of Mozambique. While it isn’t easy to get to (you’ll need to fl y to the resort town of Vilankulo and get a boat from there, or arrive by private plane), it’s certainly worth the journey. For larger groups, the 3,200-sq-ft Kisawa Residence has tons of space, with twin two bedroom bungalows connected via an open-air deck. You won’t have to worry about prying eyes here; the residence sits on its own two-acre plot and has a private in fi nity pool, beach and outdoor kitchen. From $4,890 per night.
