Brazil RAFA CONSENTINO Model

Florence, Italy LEONARDO FERRAGAMO Owner, Nautor’s Swan

New York NICHOLAS DUERS Photographer

New York INDRÉ ROCKEFELLER Co-Founder, Paravel

Globe-trotting model Rafa may call New York home, but her work with brands such as Diane von Furstenberg, La Mer and Revlon has taken her all over the world. She’s been everywhere from Bolivia to Asia, but her favorite destination so far is Cape Town, South Africa, for its breathtaking landscape. p15

Although Leonardo is based in Florence, Italy, home of his family’s fashion business, he spends much of his time sailing along the coast of Italy aboard his Swan 115, Solleone . Leonardo loves cruising the Tyrrhenian Sea and sailing near Maremma in Tuscany and the Aeolian Islands in Sicily. p74

Nicholas is a New York–based still- life photographer who specializes in shooting fashion accessories, beauty products and luxury goods for magazines such as CR Fashion Book , Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire . His most memorable trip was to Svalbard — with massive glaciers and miles of frozen tundra. p79

It was Indré’s worldly travels that led her to start Paravel, a line of chic luggage for stylish travelers. While Florence is her home away from home, her favorite place to relax is Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for its jaw-dropping natural splendor and outdoor activities. It's best explored while wearing a great pair of cowboy boots, of course. p60

An audio tour about the life and presidency of President Kennedy will lead you around the former Texas School Book Depository, central to his assassination. The 2019 fair will run from late September until October. And finally, you may be in the city but Dallas is also home to some stunning green spaces. We love the 66 acres of beautiful gardens at the Dallas Arboretum. Check out the seasonal calendar for delightful offerings such as live music, cooking demonstrations, art displays and early morning walks for members.

Dallas is a major business hub in the Lone Star State and the American Southwest — but there is far more to this city than being home to major Fortune 500 companies such as AT&T and Kimberly-Clark. Begin your exploration of Dallas in the arts district, home to many activities including the Skyline 360 Tour at the Dallas Center for Architecture. Gather in KlydeWarren Park, a short walk from the historic McKinney Avenue and McKinney Trolley, for a beautiful view of the skyline and information from the experts on what makes each building special. MILLION AIR

Take off Welcome aboard and welcome to the world of Million Air! Every organization has a culture of some kind. Great organizations do not leave their cultures to chance, but rather define, create, manage, communicate and teach all employees and stakeholders the vital importance of that culture. It is imperative that the leaders of your (and my) company stay focused and relentless. At Million Air, we recognize that our “product” is not simply jet fuel, and as a hospitality organization we must create a strong culture with guest-centered values and manage it very carefully. As in all service industries, the “product” is largely intangible. One sobering reality of this intangibility is that the value and quality of our product is determined exclusively by you. What is in the hearts and minds of our valued customers is what counts. Each and every contact with our product either reinforces or takes away from that experience. We planned and carefully thought through our culture with you at the center of our organization. It is a crucial part of our strategy to ensure everything and everyone in the organization, from our equipment to our theater rooms, from our front liners to leadership, all value and emote the customer experience that you expect, and that we wish to deliver. We believe that we must define our own culture and design it, teach it and live it every single day. The ladies and gentlemen of Million Air are obsessed with service excellence, and are committed to refining our product of service for you, your guests, your aircraft and crew. We will continue to make every decision with you in mind. Putting you first must be, and is, a way of life at Million Air. We want your travels to and from our facility to be the very best possible, and to exceed your expectations. As the most productive distinguished travelers in the world, you deserve the very best. We wish you happy travels through the holiday season. Everyone at Million Air awaits your next arrival at one of our 30 exciting locations.

Historic Topeka THE CAPITAL OF KANSAS HAS A RICH HISTORY AND A BUSTLING ARTS SCENE

WHERE TO STAY For a quality stay with luxury amenities, book a room at Hyatt Place Topeka. Conveniently located four miles from downtown Topeka, Hyatt Place boasts a 24-hour Guest Kitchen restaurant (where guests are treated to complimentary breakfast), a 24-hour fitness center, an outdoor pool and 1,200 sq ft of meeting space. Kansas State Capitol building

Hyatt Place Topeka

Inner dome of the Kansas State Capitol building

Located along the Kansas River, Topeka began as an important stop on the Oregon Trail before writing a colorful history that helped to shape the cultural and political landscape of the United States, most notably in the landmark case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. Today, Topeka continues its symbiotic relationship with government — the state of Kansas and the Kansas State Capitol act as the largest employers in the city. Built in 1866, the Capitol stretches over 20 acres and boasts a 300-ft dome that is reached by climbing 296 steps to the top. Inside, murals by painter John Steuart Curry illustrate scenes fromKansas’s rich history. Not far from the capitol sits the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site. TheMonroe Elementary School building was part of a segregated school system that was taken to court in 1954 in a repeal of the “separate but equal” clause. Now the site features special exhibitions, tours and information on the historic decision. Other educational sites include the Kansas Museum of History, which displays Civil War battle flags, a 1868 stagecoach, a 1950s diner and the Great Overland Station, which serves as a railroad museum

and public center. Topeka also has a bustling arts scene with exciting opportunities for music, theater and visual arts. The Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University offers guests free admission to exhibits from regional, national and international artists, art lessons and resources, and an in-house complimentary ArtLab for guests to create their own works of art. Exhibitions change throughout the year and an “endangered art” fundraising project was unveiled earlier this year — a rare opportunity to see paintings from the Mulvane’s permanent collection that do not usually go on display. The Topeka Civic Theatre & Academy, founded in 1936, is the oldest continuously running community dinner theatre in the country and offers a variety of showstopping theater experiences, including the celebrated dinner theater that promises visitors a delicious meal with the show. Budding thespians can enroll in the academy classes —a variety of two-hour workshops designed to teach students all they need to know to be successful performers. Summer camps also available for youths aged 4 to 17.

WHERE TO EAT An innovative restaurant concept housed in a quaint Topeka brownstone, Rowhouse Restaurant is a must-try. The gourmet food and friendly staff have made it a local favorite. The menu changes weekly and entrées range from beef tenderloin served with kale chimichurri to seared salmon with a rich lemon-garlic aioli. 515 Southwest Van Buren Street +1 785 235 1700 rowhouserestaurant.net WHERE TO FLY Located at Forbes Field in Topeka, Million Air Topeka is a top-of-the-line FBO with more than enough space for luxury-minded travelers. The lodge itself sneaks into viewwhile you’re busy taking in the quiet, jade-green water and colorful homes dotting the cliffsides. “Alaska is a bucket list destination for most jetsetters,” says owner, JT Thurston. “By investing in our own sea and air transport fleet — coupled with our unique location just ten miles from an airport that accommodates private jets of all sizes —we’ve conquered the logistical barriers of sharing this raw, unspoiled part of the planet.” The main lodge is a work of art with its cathedral ceilings and monumental stone masonry fireplace, where guests gather for family-style meals and conversation. An expansive deck out back looks over the mountains and a beautiful garden that winds around a gravel pathway. Ten meticulously curated cabins fan out from the lodge, each with its own unique theme and artwork, much of it created by original Stillpoint owners Jan and Jim Thurston. Each cabin has a front porch, the perfect place to sip your morning coffee in contemplative bliss, listening to the chattering of eagles and the occasional roar of a boat engine.

If Alaska is on your list of places to visit, you’re not alone. As many are growing tired of the usual vacation, Alaska offers something totally different with so many unique experiences and exciting excursions. Stillpoint Lodge is a high-end adventure resort catering to guests seeking quiet reflection paired with breathtaking escapades. It is a second-generation, family owned and operated lodge that prides itself on being a 5-star green operation. Inside, you’ll find the perfect balance of grand architecture, Alaskan artistry, Scandinavian styling, simple, nature-inspired design and a hint of Zen. It boasts the kind of upscale luxuries and eco-friendly amenities you don't expect to find at such a remote outpost. Unlike most Alaskan lodges, Stillpoint is highly accessible. Just a short boat or floatplane trip across

Stillpoint can coordinate and cater excursions for private groups of up to 25. You and your party will have the opportunity to witness playful sea otters up close as you launch an ocean kayak or stand-up paddleboard right from the dock. Or, experience epic opportunities for whale- and bird-watching, bear viewing, tide pooling and world-class fishing, as well as exploring glaciers and mountains. For those looking for some self-care, massages, hot tub, sauna and yoga are all included with your stay. Kids are welcome at the lodge, where they can help harvest vegetables, explore the nature trails and play on the beach. On clear evenings, the firepit is prepared for a bonfire and s’mores. Big, bold days leave guests ravenous at mealtimes, and the top-notch Stillpoint culinary team exceed all expectations. Devour hearty local seafood specialties caught fresh. The accompanying organic fruit and vegetables are grown in the lodge’s garden and picked fresh, just steps from your dinner table. You can truly disconnect and reconnect in the seaside village of Halibut Cove. This critical habitat is home to a remarkably high level of biological activity, rich with history and known for its no-cars, no-roads policy. The community is enriched with high standards of fine cuisine, a liking for local brews, a strong love of land and sea, and hearty folk who understand that nature still reigns. stillpointlodge.com

McLaren’s Ice Driving Center covers more than 62 miles of nearly year- round frozen lakes, roads and trails

by Alexandra Cheney Motoring

MCLAREN ON ICE

The sunlight at the top of the world penetrates the clouds much like a polar icebreaker relentlessly cuts through the frozen ocean. At 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle, zero degrees Celsius feels balmy. There’s not a breath of wind. The crystalline landscape appears petrified, that is, until a fleet of McLaren 570S coupes race by, disturbing the snow and raising the collective heartbeat. Welcome to the Pure McLaren Arctic Experience, where ice proves slicker than asphalt. Set within Finnish Lapland’s Test World, McLaren’s Ice Driving Center possesses more than 62 miles of nearly year-round frozen lakes, roads and trails. It’s also ground zero for learning how to purposefully drift the 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 rear-drive 570S. A cadre of professional drivers, one for every pair of guests, ride shotgun through a series of courses. From dynamic straights to dog bones, ovals to the impressive Grand Prix circuit, each track is groomed to encourage controlled slides. Throwing the tail out of a 3,200-lb, near-perfectly weighted supercar with adaptive dampers proves rather challenging; spinouts are common. Launching the 562-horsepower car into knee-deep snowbanks occurs more often than one imagines. But in those moments when the 570S releases and begins to glide, it’s all fast hands and throttle control. On ice and out of traction, it’s possible to maneuver the car

using the gas pedal more than the steering wheel. The infamous “Scandinavian Flick” on corner approach is certainly worth a try, as is a proper snow-will-fly burnout. Freshly caught and smoked fish is served midday at the McLaren Kota, a yurt-like building with an open fire and modern- day plumbing. Then it’s back to the track for more ice driving and occasional bumper-fascia smashing. Nights among the snow-dusted trees at the 13-room Jávri Lodge, once a winter retreat of the former president of Finland, offer respite from the day’s adventure, along with a traditional sauna. Participate in a beloved Finnish custom and head from sauna to snow angel and back again for the ultimate rush. Wish for clear skies and northern lights that dance across the horizon, spewing color and shadows. Take a break from driving and get outfitted in a snow bib, boots and a jacket and climb aboard a sled, allowing a quintet of Alaskan huskies to mush through the Inari trails. Inhale the brusque, unfettered-by-pollution Arctic air and return to the track, hands on the wheel and ready to engage with every weight transfer. Three-night, two-day driving packages from$16,679. Four-night, three-day driving packages from$20,604. The PureMcLaren Arctic Experience runs from January 28 through February 14, 2019. Beguiling in its precision at speed and addictive in its vocal and tactical responsiveness, the DBS Superleggera is quite simply amarvel

Aston Martin’s new flagship 715-horsepower DBS Superleggera

First Drive: AstonMartinDBS Superleggera

The hills are alive with the sound of 900 newton meters of torque. A curt pop-pop-pop of the exhaust gives way to a throaty rumble as Aston Martin’s new flagship 715-horsepower DBS Superleggera settles into its Alpine atmosphere. On the Austrian border some 2,297ft above sea level in the German town of Berchtesgaden, the crimson “brute in a suit,” so coined by Marek Reichman, Aston’s chief creative officer, outshines its already stunning surroundings. The DBS Superleggera is the third of seven automobiles introduced within a seven-year period — known as the Second Century plan — by the newly profitable 105-year-old British brand. Devised to compete in the luxury car market’s stratosphere, the DBS Superleggera, which takes 200 man hours to produce, lives up to its name thanks to the high degree of carbon fiber laced throughout. “It feels like it’s been in the gym,” Reichman notes, pointing to the roof, hood, brakes, front splitter and rear fixed blade, all of

responsiveness, the DBS Superleggera is quite simply a marvel. Its apparent likeness to the DB11, the 2016 grand tourer credited with jump-starting Aston’s renaissance, ends with the push of the engine button. The DBS Superleggera goes from zero to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and tops out at 211 mph. After a few hours of technical driving through the German and Austrian countryside, the cabin warms up and the ventilated seats go from accessory to necessity. Taking a design cue from Jaguar, which recently added its name just above its leaping cat vehicle badge, the Gaydon-based company opted to spell out Aston Martin in an all caps, 144-point font across the rear of the car. This isn’t simply another vehicle for James Bond to drive, it’s a brand proclamation and a promise of what’s to come. From $304,995 (deliveries begin in December 2019), astonmartin.com

which utilize the superlight material. Inside the cabin, Bridge of Weir’s supple leather seats (hand-stitched by a single seamstress to ensure the pair always matches) create a relaxed environment. Take heed; the rear seats are more suited to weekenders and picnic baskets than pets or children. Roaring from second to third gear, the bi-turbo 5.2-liter V12 could be mistaken for a traditional, naturally aspirated engine. The whir of the turbochargers is all but absent in Sport Plus mode, save for the tranquility of a few particularly wooded areas. Instead, the visceral power provided by the combination of torque and horsepower create an impressive throttle response. Passing traffic on the hot asphalt of the Autobahn becomes not an if, but a when. As the sun peeks around the Alps, blind mountain switchbacks seem less daunting, almost playful, in this grand tourer. Beguiling in its precision at speed and addictive in its vocal and tactical

SYMPHONY OF THE SEAS

These days it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain in the moment. When you’re next on vacation, look around and see who is soaking up the atmosphere and who is bent over their phones, oblivious to their surroundings — you’ll likely see more of the latter. Ponant’s latest vessel, Le Lapérouse , tackles this issue by submerging guests in a unique, immersive experience. The Blue Eye is a multi-sensorial lounge situated below the waterline. Designed by architect Jacques Rougerie to mimic the tactually smooth shapes of whales, dolphins and jellyfish, the focal point is two large portholes that allow you to see the marine environment beyond. To ensure your view isn’t limited to what happens to be swimming past at any moment in time, there are three underwater cameras under the vessel that take images of the seabed and surrounding creatures, and project them onto the screens within the lounge. Composer Michel Redolfi created the soundtrack for the lounge. Underwater microphones transmit the natural sounds of the ocean into the Blue Eye, creating a symphony of the seas. The sofas scattered throughout discreetly vibrate in harmony with the sounds, ensuring you are completely encased and absorbed in the experience. Owner’s Suite from $9,930 per person based on double occupancy for a seven-night itinerary, ponant.com
