For most children and adolescents, the negative effects of TNS are not immediately noticeable. It is only in adulthood that the consequences of prolonged forward flexion of the neck become more obvious and often irreversible, underscoring the need to educate younger generations who are still the predominant users of smartphones and tablets. There is a growing concern that without widespread awareness and intervention, young tech users may encounter a future hindered by chronic pain, disability and potentially even a reduced life expectancy. 23 It is important to remember that the generations that were introduced to smart phones and gaming are already growing older and having some of the chronic TNS symptoms emerge. These may be your clients now who are in their late 30s and 40s. However, the younger generations are even more vulnerable and may become your clients in the years to come. Because a cumulative effect could take place, they may present with more acute conditions, as well as more pronounced chronic issues as they age.
