FIRE – Fire Protection Technician (Department: 503) FIRE-104 Credits: 3 Fire Internship This course provides an opportunity for students to experience learning and insight into fi re department organization and procedures. Students are assigned to a local fi re department where they can apply knowledge and skills they learned in the classroom while performing the same duties as a working member of that department. Prerequisite(s): Complete EMS-192. FIRE-114 Credits: 3 Employability Skills Employability Skills is a course designed to fi ne tune the student’s skills, knowledge and abilities, and apply them to the application or promotion process within the Fire Service. Prerequisite(s): Complete FIRE-142, FIRE-143, FIRE-153, FIRE-191, FIRE-192 and FIRE-193. FIRE-142 Credits: 4 Firefighting Principles Describes basic fi re behavior, techniques used to control structural and related fi re emergencies, and life safety practices. Students perform all practical evolutions necessary to control and extinguish fi res, and otherwise meet all requirements for Fire fi ghter Level 1 certi fi cation with the State of Wisconsin. Prerequisite(s): Complete FIRE- 143, FIRE-191, FIRE-192, FIRE-193. Completion of or currently enrolled in FIRE-153. FIRE-143 Credits: 3 Building Construction for Fire Protection Provides the components of building construction that relate to fi re and life safety. Students are taught the basic principles of structural design such as: masonry, frame, veneer, structural steel and reinforced concrete constructions. Building codes and fi re ordinances as they apply to basic construction also are covered. FIRE-144 Credits: 2 Advanced Firefighting Principles This course builds on Fire fi ghter Level 1 skills with multiple practical sessions including structural fi re fi ghting, vehicle extrication, natural gas fi re emergencies, fi re fi ghting foam and more. Students will learn communications, incident reporting and the Incident Management System. Students will be put in command roles and coordinate on-scene operations for multiple fi re and rescue companies during live fi re attack sessions. This course meets all requirements of Fire fi ghter Level II State of Wisconsin certi fi cation. Prerequisite(s): Complete FIRE-142 and FIRE-153.

FIN-112 Credits: 3 Introduction to Banking This course provides students with introductory knowledge of the business of the banking industry, and the various products and services provided. Students will be able to explain the context, structure and operation of banks. Students will learn about the evolution of banking from its history to electronic banking systems. They will learn about the various roles in the organization. Key fi nancial statements used within the industry are introduced, as well as the various instruments that construe negotiable instruments, types of endorsements, payment process and fraud schemes. Personal fi nancial planning will be emphasized for all individuals with it being a priority for anyone working in the fi eld. FIN-120 Credits: 3 Introduction to Money, Banking and Financial Markets An introduction to the essential elements of money, banking and fi nancial markets while emphasizing the relevance of each in the economy. Topics include fi nancial markets and instruments, fi nancial institutions, central banking, monetary policy and the Federal Reserve System, and business cycles. Prerequisite(s): Complete FIN-110 or ACCTG-111, and ECON-195 or any 200-level ECON course. FIN-122 Credits: 3 Investment Principles In this course, students are presented with the information, tools and guidance needed to make educated investing decisions. The investment simulation project provides hands-on experience stock trading and structuring a portfolio. Prerequisite(s): Complete ACCTG-110 or ACCTG-111. FIN-170 Credits: 3 Credit Management This course provides the knowledge and tools to establish, manage, analyze and control both consumer and business credit. Topics include the credit process, credit management policies and procedures, fi nancial statement analysis, and regulation of consumer credit. FIN-180 Credits: 3 Financial Statement Analysis Financial Statement Analysis is a capstone course for the Banking and Financial Services program. Emphasis is placed on interpreting and analyzing fi nancial statements under di ff erent business structures and fi nancing decisions. Course takes an analytical approach around balance

Fire Prevention Provides fundamental information regarding the history and philosophy of fi re prevention, organization and operation of a fi re prevention bureau, use of fi re codes, and identi fi cation and correction of fi re hazards. Meets all requirements for Fire Inspector I certi fi cation with the State of Wisconsin. Prerequisite(s): Complete FIRE-143, FIRE-191, FIRE-192, FIRE-193. FIRE-153 Credits: 1 Hazmat Awareness and Operations Examines characteristics relating to hazardous materials including problems of recognition and mitigation. Prepares students to Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Level. Prerequisite(s): Complete FIRE-143, FIRE-191, FIRE-192, FIRE-193. FIRE-154 Credits: 2 Hazmat Chemistry This course provides basic chemistry relating to the categories of hazardous materials including recognition, identi fi cation, reactivity, and health hazards encountered by emergency services. FIRE-156 Credits: 3 Strategies, Tactics and Incident Management Provides an in-depth analysis of the principles of emergency response through utilization of an Incident Management System. Prepares students to pursue current national ICS training requirements. Prerequisite(s): Must be admitted to the Fire Protection Technician (10-503-2) program. FIRE-157 Credits: 3 Fire Investigation Provides students with the fundamentals and technical knowledge needed for proper fi re scene investigations. Many topics will be covered including: arson detection, conducting a fi re investigation, determining whether the fi re is accidental or incendiary, fi re cause and origin. Prerequisite(s): Complete FIRE-142, FIRE- 143, FIRE-153, FIRE-191, FIRE-192 and FIRE-193. FIRE-191 Credits: 2 Principles of Emergency Services This course will provide an overview of the fi re protection and emergency services fi eld. Topics include career opportunities, the history of fi re and emergency services, chemistry and physics of fi re, organization and function of public and private fi re protection services, fi re departments as part of local government, fi re prevention, laws and ordinances a ff ecting the fi re service, and fi re service nomenclature. FIRE-192 Credits: 3 Principles of Emergency Services Safety and Survival This course introduces the basic principles and history related to the national fi re fi ghter life safety initiatives, focusing on the need for cultural and behavior change throughout the emergency services.
