Tone and Blakely Garage. North of the garage is Clare’s 1917 sheet metal shop.The Gilbert Bank was also built in 1917. Spindler’s Grocery and Meat Market was our second store. In 1918, Clive Davis came to town and built the third store, calling it a General Store. J. D. Lynch built the first lumber yard in 1918. Burns built the second blacksmith shop, and Mr. Barber built the Barber Building, the first store south of the railroad tracks.

John Sawyer and Rose Geiszl Divelbess assisted each other in sketching Gilbert in 1918, as they remembered it from their youth. The oldest building in the drawing below is the Gilbert Depot, which was constructed in 1905. The Ayers-Butler Grocery was built in 1910, and Houck’s blacksmith shop was established in 1912.The Nowells’ home was built about 1915. Gilbert’s first pharmacy was built in 1916 and called Pilchers Drugstore. In 1916,Timmons Garage was built, and in 1918 it became the
