In 2006, they committed to a $2.5 million matching grant for building the Lund Family Pediatric and Adolescent Unit in Tower B, scheduled for completion in 2008. In addition to the Lunds’ generosity, the hospital continues to receive generous support from other members of the community.Through the G.I.F.T. Campaign (Gilbert Investing For Tomorrow), the CHW Foundation—EastValley hopes to raise an additional ten million dollars to help Mercy Gilbert increase bed capacity and service lines within the first eighteen months of operation. Significant gifts from the Gila River Indian Community and from Mercy Gilbert employees bring the campaign ever closer to ts goal. Involving the Community As the construction process began, Mercy Gilbert set out to get to know the community right away—and to give their neighbors a chance to become a part of Gilbert’s history by partici pating in a handful of community events.
Keeping Up with the Growth As Chandler Regional Hospital continued to expand capacity and service offerings to meet the needs of the steadily increasing population of its neighbors to the east, it became apparent to that hospital’s leadership, as well as CHW leader ship, that the southeast Valley would soon face a shortage of capacity in local hospitals. For the next two years, Chandler Regional Hospital leadership conducted feasibility studies, worked with local officials, analyzed community healthcare needs, and sought out an ideal loca tion to build the area’s next hospital.They found that perfect location, on what was then an alfalfa field at the southeast corner of Pecos Road and Val Vista Drive.The parcel of land was owned by the Lund family, who were committed to seeing this piece of land become something of benefit to the booming community.The family’s dedica tion to improving healthcare for the Gilbert community has gone well beyond seeing to it that their land was well developed; the Lund family remains involved in philanthropic activi ties, allowing Mercy Gilbert Medical Center to
