GET TO KNOW ME
Describe your role for the FBA. As director of the Florida Bankers Educational Foundation (FBEF), I work with Florida bankers who want to go back to school so they can complete their college degree. My involvement with the FBEF also gives me the opportunity to work with a dedicated board of bankers who are committed to helping these bankers advance their career through education. I love to help people, so I really enjoy my job. Favorite thing about the FBA? The people, both the FBA staff and our members. Every day I have the honor of working with some of the smartest and hardest-working people you will ever meet. I consider myself very lucky to be a part of such a great group of people. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? I haven’t traveled much, but I feel like I have because of the stories my family members have shared with me about the different places they are all from. My mother is Puerto Rican, with family from Spain; my father is from North Carolina. My stepfather grew up on a farm in Indiana and my stepmother is from
Massachusetts, with family from England. My in-laws are from Ukraine. I have always enjoyed being around a wide variety of people from different backgrounds, which is perfect for living in a state as diverse as Florida. How do you spend your free time? Reading or watching murder mysteries. I really enjoy watching murder mystery shows from a variety of countries, such as Nordic Noir. My family teases me that I only want to watch subtitled shows with multiple murders, but I just really enjoy listening to other languages and seeing stories from other cultures. Do you have pets? Some call me a crazy cat lady, but I love all animals. When I was a kid, I briefly considered becoming a veterinarian, but after learning that they must complete at least eight years of college in order to diagnose such a wide range of animals, I realized that the job involved a lot more than just hugging pets all day!
