NEW MEMBER BENEFITS

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The COVID-19 pandemic and recession have had a profound effect on all of us. We have had to redefine the way we work, the way we play, the way we care for those we love. And if this health crisis hasn’t taught us the importance of caring for and protecting our families and loved ones, I don’t know what will. Your membership with Catholic Financial Life is more valuable than ever. You simultaneously made a choice to protect your family and make a difference in your community. Thank you! The pictures on the front cover are just a few of the more than 150 check presentations resulting in over $140,000 of help for first responders and food pantries as part of our Love One Another Campaign . You will also see a few pictures of the $50,000 impact you made on Catholic parishes and schools as part of the Catholic Comeback . Your membership fuels our cooperative effort to bring light to the darkness. This issue of Radiant Life highlights several new member-only benefits and programs to further enhance the value of membership. I am encouraged by the words of Scripture, “Behold, I am with you always … be not afraid … I make all things new.” Together, we will get through this crisis and emerge stronger. Better days are ahead. I pray that you and your loved ones remain healthy and safely enjoy the upcoming holidays. Fraternally,

Fraternalmente,

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Chronos and Kairos … two Greek words for time that have very Cronos y Kairos ... dos palabras griegas para referirse al tiempo que tienen significados muy

distintos.

different meanings. Chronos, the root of the word chronology, is quantitative. It refers to measured time - minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years. It constructs time as past, present and future. It is finite. Kairos, however, means the right time or the opportune time. Kairos is qualitative. It is measured in moments and those moments vary in depth and length. It is

during these moments that we experience the awesomeness of God … sometimes alone in prayer and other times through a great conversation or a savory meal with those we love. We all look forward to the end of the pandemic and a return to normal. But it has provided us with the opportunity to evaluate our relationship with time. How do we spend our time? Are we creating the space to be with God in private prayer, the Mass and through our limited gatherings with close friends and family? When the pandemic is over, will we return to our rushed, overly scheduled way of life, or, be more in tune with God at work in our lives? As we get older and a little bit wiser, we develop a different relationship with time. We more fully appreciate it as a precious gift, focused more on quality time with God and the people we love. But we don’t have to wait until we are older to make this change. Like most things, we can get better through practice. Over the next eight weeks, the Church celebrates several important feast days and seasons within the liturgical calendar: All Saints, All Souls, Advent, the Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Christmas and Mary, Mother of God. Wow! Plus, we celebrate Thanksgiving right in the middle of all of this. My prayer and challenge for you is to approach this season differently this year. Enter into the richness of the liturgical calendar. Be especially present to your family. Savor your time together. Be even more intentional about your prayer and create the space to experience God through special moments. If you do that, I think you will find yourself living a richer life, craving Kairos, and less worried about the things of Chronos. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki Archbishop of Milwaukee Catholic Financial Life’s Spiritual Director

MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH CATHOLIC FINANCIAL LIFE’S FOUNDATION IN 2006, CATHOLIC FINANCIAL LIFE ESTABLISHED A CHARITABLE FOUNDATION IN ORDER TO HELP OUR MEMBERS ACCOMPLISH THEIR CHARITABLE GOALS. TODAY, IT HAS GROWN TO MORE THAN $2 MILLION DOLLARS IN ASSETS THANKS TO OUR MEMBERS.

There are three types of funds that can be created or donated to through the Catholic Financial Life Foundation. 1. Donor Advised – These funds allow members to establish a fund while they are living and determine which charities receive grants. 2. Donor Designated – These funds can be established while someone is alive or upon their death. The donor specifies which organization(s) receive an annual donation. This is a great way to support your parish, school or other favorite charity in perpetuity if you want. 3. Field of Interest – These funds combine donations from lots of members to support specific types of charitable causes. The Foundation’s three field of interest funds match Catholic Financial Life’s charitable priorities: helping the poor, supporting Catholic education and assisting people with special needs. As a service to our members, we have made establishing a fund to benefit your parish, school, favorite charity or all of the above very easy through this three-step process. 1. Determine the charities or causes most important to you. 2. Make a gift to the Catholic Financial Life Foundation or name the Foundation as the beneficiary or partial beneficiary of a life insurance policy, an annuity or other aspects of your estate. A minimum of $25,000 is necessary to establish a named endowed fund but any amount can be donated to the existing field of interest funds at any time. 3. Contact the Catholic Financial Life Foundation in order to establish a fund consistent with your charitable wishes. The Foundation is another value-added benefit offered to our members. Additionally, Catholic Financial Life subsidizes the cost to invest the money while other Foundations have to pay staff, rent office space and purchase supplies. Because the Foundation is administered by our associates there are no overhead expenses or salaries, which allows 100 percent of your money to go to charity. If you would like to learn more about how the Foundation can help you accomplish your charitable goals and benefit the organizations or

causes closest to your heart, please contact Bill O’Toole at bill.otoole@catholicfinanciallife.org or 414-278-6700.

In Remembrance of Leona Katorski

LEONA KATORSKI Leona was a devout Catholic who lived her faith through her love for her family, friends and service to others. She was a strong supporter and avid fundraiser for the annual Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk. And in 2012, she was one of the first recipients of Catholic Financial Life’s Archbishop Listecki Servant of the Poor Awards, in recognition of her efforts. She was active in her parish, a member of the ChristianWomen Society, and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Mass and at St. Luke’s Hospital. She had the heart of a caregiver, and was always willing to help, no matter how big or small the need. We ask you to keep Leona’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in your prayers. LEONA KATORSKI, 75-YEAR MEMBER OF CATHOLIC FINANCIAL LIFE, PASSED AWAY IN JULY. WE ARE DEEPLY SADDENED BY HER PASSING AND CONTINUE TO REMEMBER LEONA AND HER FAMILY IN OUR PRAYERS.

Eternal rest grant unto Leona, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

As a Catholic organization that believes strongly in the power of prayer, we encourage you to pray for all of our member intentions. If you or someone you know needs the prayers of others, we invite you to submit your intentions to our Prayer Network. Intentions will be prayed for by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, in Masses held quarterly in the Home Office’s All Saints Chapel and anyone who feels called to visit our Prayer Network to pray for the intentions of others. To submit your intentions or find someone in need of your prayers, visit cfl.org/prayer.
