A ll the way from the Island of Sodor, Thomas the Tank Engine arrives in Chattanooga on April 23, 24, 30, and May 1. Hosted by the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, Day Out With Thomas™ is an annual event that offers children and their families an opportunity to take a 25 minute train ride with Thomas around the Tennessee Valley and participate in Thomas-themed activities for the remainder of the day. Thomas the Train, known for his quest to become a “Really Useful Engine,” was first brought to life by Wilbert Vere Awdry in a series of children’s books based on stories he crafted for his son, Christopher. The first book, The Three Railway Engines, was released in

1945 and inspired 25 more books before the television show Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends was released in the United Kingdom 1984. PBS introduced Thomas to American audiences in 1989. Tickets to Day Out With Thomas™ include a train ride, a meet-and-greet with Controller of the Railway Sir TophamHatt, storytelling, a dance party, crafts, train tables, coloring, videos, and more! Thomas will leave the station every hour from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., rain or shine. Tickets start at $21 for ages 1 and up.
