HONORING A HOMETOWN HERO T he Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center will unveil a new, powerful exhibit dedicated to Chattanooga native, and one of our nation’s most distinguished heroes, Capt. Larry Taylor. A highly decorated Vietnam War veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, Capt. Taylor’s life and legacy have been immortalized in this exhibit, giving visitors an intimate look at his

fitting tribute to his heroic deeds and will serve as an educational tool for future generations, allowing them to learn about one of the most heroic moments in American military history. The story of Capt. Taylor’s heroism began on June 18, 1968, when he was a young Army helicopter pilot conducting a combat mission in Vietnam. During a daring rescue operation, Capt. Taylor received orders to provide cover support for a team of Army Green Berets stranded in a dangerous jungle area, surrounded by enemy forces. Despite the imminent danger, Capt. Taylor maneu vered his helicopter into the danger zone, making multiple passes under intense fire to successfully retrieve the soldiers. His actions,

extraordinary acts of bravery, leadership, and selflessness. Capt. Larry Taylor, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War, is widely recognized for his courageous rescue of a 4-man reconnaissance team under extreme enemy fire.
